Later, Jennie ran a stage dance school in Hertfordshire for children and worked with local dance groups, schools and amateur drama clubs as choreographer.
Whilst raising their family, Richard and Jennie took up ballroom and latin dancing, going on to take their medal tests and compete in inter-school competitions. After a number of happy years dancing socially they began to compete in 'open competition' and rapidly rose through the levels.
Starting in Novice sections, they won National competitions at every level, graduating after many years to championship National, International and World competitions.
Ultimately, they achieved 11th placing in the World Senior II Championships in Italy and held the prestigious ballroom titles for ‘Closed UK’, ‘British National’ and ‘International Championships’ competitions for three consecutive years before retiring from amateur dancesport undefeated.
They have travelled extensively overseas both to study and compete and were part of the eminent international organisation of Team Diablo (who train many of the world’s top amateur and professional couples). In 2007 they were honoured by this organisation when they were awarded the esteemed ‘Senior Award’ in front of an international audience.
